REPLACING A SINGLE TOOL SAVES 6 HOURS OF WORK PER DAY

One workday, that too can be the lifetime of tools in the wood processing industry, for example in chipboard production. The blades on the grinding heads that chop up wooden waste and even entire trees into splinters, must be changed daily. For the operators, this means having to loosen and tighten 12 bolts over and over again.

In the operations of a client in Slovakia, this task required 3 workers, a nutrunner and a torque wrench that ensured the final tightening torque of 2300 Nm. The replacement of the blades employed all the workers for 3 hours.

Demanding work, strong vibrations and frequent tool malfunctions finally lead this client to Atlas Copco. Our authorised distributor Pneunáradie AC s.r.o. proposed tool replacement and recommended the RTP 4100 nutrunner. Despite the costs of the new equipment being approximately 1000 % higher that of the existing tools, the client quickly realised the overall cost savings.

By installing the RTP nutrunner, the blade replacement now only requires 2 workers and takes only 1.5 hours. The company thereby saves 6 hours of work and has reduced costs associated with vibration premiums. Furthermore, the client praises the high tightening accuracy and minimal tool failure rate.
